Life at sea became part of the story.
Captain Joe Fleming served with the USAF. He was a guest aboard the USS Coral Sea, the USS Forrestal, USS Silversides and the USS Daniel A Joy.
He served as crew aboard a 43 foot Grand Banks schooner and captained his own 38 foot cutter and 22 foot sport fisherman.
Those experiences on and around the water inform the nautical atmosphere of The Fighting Flynns and give the stories their sense of seamanship, adventure, and place.
